Romeo and Juliet: Assessment Results

Over-All grade: 6A

  1. Dramatic Performance: 5A – Great effort learning the lines for your character. The performance demonstrated a clear awareness of the meaning of the text.
  2. Timeline: 6A – Very detailed and insightful and account of the events, characters and ideas in the play
  3. Essay:
    • Reading Grade: 6A – Sophisticated appreciation of the lingustic, stylistic, generic and historical context of the play
    • Writing Grade: 7C – A fascinating take on the form of “Analytical Essay”. If you were submitting this for an external assessment, the use of the extended metaphor would have been determined to be inappropriate for the text style. I’ve decided, as we agreed in this case, to allow it, as it turned out to be an effective method to show the different effects of the action of fate, and because an extended metaphor is a difficult device to use successfully and I believe you deserve credit for it.
    • In future, please try to keep the style elements suited to the type of text you’re writing. An extended metaphor is suitable for persuasive, descriptive and poetic writing, but not suitable for expository writing, which is the style for an essay.
